Bilbao: the alternative way, part 1

October 14th, 2009 jehoul.sanne 1 comment

(This is going to be more of a novel than a blog post, just so you know!)

I have the feeling that it’s been a while since the last post. Let me assure you that I have a perfectly valid explanation for my absence these days: I spent the weekend in Bilbao, as I expected in the previous post. A great weekend, being able to discover the city in an alternative way that led me off the beaten tourist track. Read more…

Rain + boredom => delirium

October 8th, 2009 jehoul.sanne No comments

I have a startling confession to make, after all the – often way too long – posts I’ve written here. I don’t know what to write you. And I’m not talking writer’s block, I just don’t know anything that has happened in the past days that is worth telling you about. Only option is to tell you a few things that did happen but are just not so tremendously exciting. So if you’re reading further than this and you get bored out of your mind, don’t come nagging to me, I just gave you a five-sentence long warning. Read more…

Waves of happiness

In my previous post I told you I wanted to enjoy the last bits of post-summer, so that’s what I did in these past days. After a lazy Sunday of recuperating from the weekend, I headed to Donostia again on Monday to spend a day at the beach with Niké and Tiina. Read more…

Photography and Language (twice)

October 6th, 2009 jehoul.sanne No comments

I have an assignment for all of you: write a script and storyboard and create a photographic comic strip which should include at least forty pictures, but do this in dialogue with someone from the Basque Country. I dare you. Because that’s our task for our Digital Journalism class. Read more…

Maritxu Kajoi: the event, the recovery

October 4th, 2009 jehoul.sanne No comments

Gabon/Egun on everybody! Yes, I’m writing you in the evening, but for me it still feels like morning. Main cause: Maritxu Kajoi, one of Arrasate’s biggest yearly festivities, and Corine’s birthday party. I have seen very few hours of daylight this weekend and I’m suffering the consequences right now. Get ready for a long post! Read more…

Sin carne y sin pescado, por favor

Hazaa and hurray, today a miracle has come my way! There you have it, the lamest opening sentence of any blog post that has ever been written. Why? I have been told that there are two vegetarian shops in Mondragón and after almost a month of no meat substitutes, I must say I’m very, very pleased! Read more…

A Korean-Spanish international film festival!

September 27th, 2009 jehoul.sanne No comments

On the last day of the San Sebastian film festival, we finally made it there. Together with Oihana, Eneko and Irati, our Erasmus buddies, we took an early bus and spent the day in the neighbourhood of the red carpet, watching a low-budget Korean movie (Animal Town) and enjoying the sea. Read more…

(A little bit) More of the same?

September 25th, 2009 jehoul.sanne No comments

I’ve thought about some ways to start this blog without having you all thinking that we don’t do anything else but partying and shopping, but alas, I have to be honest: we went to Vitoria-Gasteiz again yesterday! Together with Corine and Tiina – two other Erasmus students – Niké and I went on a typical girly shoe hunt, which we completed successfully. Read more…

Wallet holes and revelations

September 22nd, 2009 jehoul.sanne No comments

Part of being a student is the constant lack of money and especially when you’re on Erasmus, it seems a 50-euro bill gets spent quicker than you can flush it down the drain. Even though most things in the Basque Country are a bit cheaper than in Belgium, it still feels like there’s a huge money-sucking hole in my wallet. Read more…
